Ling GAO was born in Jiangsu, China. and, after graduating from Suzhou Institute of Arts and Crafts, initially worked in mobile phone Interface User design. It was from 2007, after her first participation in the Get It Louder exhibition, that she began creating artworks and actively collaborating with artists both domestically and internationally, including engaging in artist-in-residence programs.

Ling GAO’s artistic themes encompass feminism, environmental protection, societal phenomena, and human nature. Utilizing various mediums such as photography, installations, and objects, she humorously intervenes in everyday life to redefine our relationship with the mundane. Her works often directly respond to pressing issues in society and daily life, as seen in pieces like Hey! TTTTouch Me, and The Big Mist.

The interactivity of Ling GAO’s numerous works turns the act of creation into a process. Her artworks evolve over time with audience interaction, giving rise to new events and works, as exemplified by NvQuan fountain, Curve Restaurant, and LetOutAYawn, among others.

Regarding her sense of humor, Ling GAO views humor as a detached perspective, an elegant and clever transformation of problems. In her perspective, humor is a form of transcending that gracefully and skillfully shifts the focus of issues.
